DISJECTA ANNOUNCES CURATOR FOR 2011-2012 & CURATOR-IN-RESIDENCE INITIATIVE

Disjecta Interdisciplinary Art Center is pleased to announce Jenene Nagy, Portland-based curator and visual artist, has been appointed Disjecta's first Curator-in-Residence. Throughout the 2011- 2012 exhibition season, Nagy will present a series of solo shows featuring installation, site- specific and project-based works including many artists who have not had major exhibitions in Portland previously. A partial list of artists will be released in December 2010.
Nagy is currently co-curator, with Josh Smith, of TILT Export:, an independent arts initiative that works in partnership with a variety of venues to produce exhibitions. As the director and co- curator of Tilt Gallery and Project Space from 2006-2008, Nagy first introduced Portland to significant artists such as Avantika Bawa, Stephen Slappe, Stephanie Robison, Rebecca Ripple, and Fawn Krieger.

VIDEO MUSICS II: SUN WU-KONG
Friday, September 3rd / 8pm / $5 / ALL AGES! Group show from August 18th-September 5th

On September 3rd, Disjecta hosts Alexis Gideon’s follow up to his genre-busting animated/stop motion video opera “Video Musics.” “Video Musics II: Sun Wu-Kong” is a one-hour multimedia video opera based on the 16th-century Chinese novel “The Journey to the West,” and is the result of two years of dogged research and collaboration with the brightest lights of contemporary animation and music.

HENK PANDER "MARYALICE PAINTINGS"

Disjecta is pleased to present an exhibition of paintings and works on paper by esteemed artist Henk Pander. The works in this exhibition document Pander’s close relationship with his granddaughter, Maryalice, who lived with Pander and his wife, Delores, until she was twelve. During this time, Maryalice was a common fixture in Pander’s studio, either as a subject, or working at her own easel alongside her grandfather, especially after he built a studio extension to the family home in 2004.
