Project Description

Disjecta Dialogues with Michelle Grabner and Jens Hoffmann

Presented By Ace Hotel Portland

Saturday, July 9, 2016
Please join us for the launch of Portland2016 with Michelle Grabner, curator of the Portland2016 Biennial of Contemporary Art, and Jens Hoffmann, Deputy Director of The Jewish Museum in New York. Grabner, an artist, curator, and educator, expanded the Portland Biennial to a major statewide event. Grabner’s Biennial uses regionalism and localism as major themes, questioning the advantages of working off-center within the context of contemporary art, and the potential for freedom in the periphery of cultural capitals. Joining her in conversation is her colleague Jens Hoffmann, a writer and curator. Hoffmann has curated more than 50 exhibitions internationally and recently visited Portland in preparation for his contribution to the Portland2016 catalog: A Reader on Place and Work, designed and published by Container Corps, Portland.
This public discussion at Ace Hotel Portland will kick-off a weekend of opening celebrations; Biennial exhibitions and events will run statewide from July9 – September 18.
