Project Description

Vestibule: Soft Core Apparel

Artist: Brittany Powell | Curator: Kendra Larson
September 28th, 2012 – October 28th, 2012

Curator Kendra Larson opens a new Vestibule exhibition season with the wall-sized, contact paper murals of artist Brittany Powell.  Soft Core Apparel explores the absurdity cum pornography of American Apparel ads as large scale recreations that combine humor and poignancy in identifying the sexploitation of the feminine form to sell clothing.

Her work has been exhibited at the Interisland Terminal, Honolulu, HI; Kimball Art Center, Park City, UT; Portland Art Museum, OR; and the Monty Art Space, Antwerp, Belgium. She co-created and implemented Camp Share-A-Tent, a childhood-style summer camp for adults in Dallas, OR, and currently runs Lowcommitmentprojects.com, a project dedicated to everyday art.
