Disjecta Curatorial Mission

Disjecta aims to exhibit contemporary works in all media through a program that will reflect and enrich Portland's contemporary arts landscape. We believe the best way for us to do so is to offer a flexible model that, while staying true to a clear mission, reaches beyond a single curatorial eye to take advantage of the strengths and savvy our Advisory Board, guest curators and a network of like-minded organizations and individuals throughout the world. Disjecta's galleries will offer a space where collaborations and new ideas in art and exhibition may thrive.

Disjecta's curatorial mission will be directed by the following goals:

  • To exhibit challenging work
  • To encourage collaborations between curator(s), artist(s) and viewer(s)
  • To offer space and opportunity for emerging and talented curators
  • To expect equal rigor from local, regional and national work, thus supporting and proving the talent within our own community
  • To take intelligent risks

The Curatorial Committee

Disjecta's Curatorial Committee joins Disjecta artistic staff, board, and Advisory Committee members. At a staff level, Disjecta's Visual Arts Coordinator will play a major role in realizing the visions of the Curatorial Committee, connecting with artists, suggesting programming opportunities, and coordinating exhibition details. This volunteer committee is invited by the Board of Directors and reassigned every year. In order to maintain direction within an open model, Disjecta's Director will serve as the Curatorial Committee Chair.
