August 14th, 2015 – September 6th, 2015
Disjecta is pleased to host GLEAN, a partnership between Recology, an employee-owned company that manages resource recovery facilities, Metro, the regional government that guides the region’s garbage and recycling systems, and Crackedpots.
After spending five months immersed in the never-ending flow of discards processed at Metro Central transfer station (the “dump”), GLEAN artists bring their insight and perspective to help communicate through the materials they selectively salvaged.
The exhibition will feature works reinterpreting old fire hoses, automobile belts, underground conduit tubes, rusted steel panels, construction lathe, vintage fabrics, and many other curious materials by Schel Harris, Brian Hutsebout, Beckey Kaye, Brenda Mallory and Rio Wrenn.
